Human activity dates from the 24th century BC, but the first people did not settle here in a permanent fashion. Instead the island was used as a source of oysters, for food and for pearls. The lack of vegetation or fresh water made permanent settlement nearly impossible. Today the island still has temporary fisherman, but few to no permanent residents. The ruins have been declared a National Monument of Venezuela in In , Cubagua was sighted by Christopher Columbus.

The narrow La Restinga isthmus connecting the two peninsulas comprises the large La Restinga salt lagoon which forms a part of the Laguna de la Restinga National Park. Located on the isthmus are twin hills known as Tetas de Maria Guevara. The km-long coastline of Margarita Island features numerous white-sand beaches.
Although rainfall is rare, the island receives rain during the winter season. The large La Restinga salt lagoon features mangrove forests that consist of many important mangrove species like black mangrove, red mangrove, and white mangrove. The lagoon is separated from the sea by seashells and a sandbar. Margarita is a great place to go around. Castles, churches, nature. Everything is close and going from one place to another is usually a nice trip.

Panning can also be achieved by holding down the left mouse button and using the mouse to drag the map left, right, up and down. Basically, Google Maps lets you view a map of the world through a viewing area.
To see more or less of the map in the view screen you need to zoom out or zoom in. The panning buttons allow you to move the map under the viewing area. If you want to look closer at a particlular area then you will want to use the panning buttons so that the desired location is centered in the viewing area and then Zoom In.
Map, Sat and Ter modes are simple to use and quite useful. Earth mode is similar to Sat in they both use satellite images but thats where the similarity end. Earth mode, if you are not familar with the Google Earth application, can be a little bit tricky.
