How steep a slope can you mow

Hi again! A side-by-side comparison on sears. What advice or information can you provide to compare these two models? Thanks for all of your help! Hi Patrick, I went back and read your original comment and I picked the 50 inch because you thought the 54 inch might be too big. I would actually suggest a 46 inch if there was one with a heavy trans. Now I also picked the Craftsman Pro because they mow the best. They side discharge, mulch and bag better than both the Red Craftsman and the Husqvarna 52 inch.

You also have some steep slopes and I think the front axle of the Craftsman Pro will hold up better than the red Craftsman. Yes, the transmission in the is stronger than the but the trans in the is plenty strong for your lawn and it will last for you. Do you have any insite as to when it will be available again?

If it contines to be unavailble, is there an alternate mower that you could recommend? Hi Paul! Thank you for such a great site. The yard is pretty smooth overall. The front yard is flat with only two trees and the back yard only has two trees and a few obstacles, although we are planning for more trees in the future, front and back.

I am looking for a recommendation for a riding mower that will handle the slopes, be able to handle an aerator, dethatcher and small cart.

I have also been looking at the Husqvarna line at Lowes. Because of my sloped back yard, do I need to consider a mower with a locking differential? My wife and I are concerned about the safety issues with mowing the slopes so I am primarily looking for a mower that handles well and safely on slopes.

Any advice to help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated. The 4 wheels on the corners of the deck are anti-scalp wheels. They are not supposed to ride on the ground. They are only there to help the deck go over tree roots, landscape edging and other obstructions in your yard. Go out and mow two straight lines going the same direction when you mow.

Does it look like one side of the deck is lower than the other and it is cutting uneven? If it is then use the deck leveling procedure in the manual to level the deck from side-to-side. Feel free to stop back anytime and ask questions. Please use the model number under the seat to let me know what tractor you have,.

Hi I live in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, we have a 40 acre campground with all sorts of terrain. We have a big Kubota tractor for most of the grounds, however it cannot fit in some areas like the mini golf course and most sites. I am left with too much push mowing. One of the bigger areas i have to push mow is about a 45 degree hill. Hi Justin, Smaller mowers do not mow slopes safely.

Snapper makes a rider with a 28 and 30 inch decks. Toro makes a steering wheel zero turn with a 32 inch deck. Many of the commercial companies make a standon rider with a 36 inch deck. My slope is around 30 degrees, but the area is small. It is four feet high and feet long. A push mower solution is fine. I prefer a self propelled and know that typical small tires on a push mower just will not work. The surface is not terrible, but uneven enough to stop a standard small tire push mower.

What about push weed trimmer mowers? We appreciate your insights. Thanks in advance. Hi Paul, I recently bought a new house. Great view comes with a back yard that has slopes ranging from 15 to up to 25 degrees. All though I know that no mower is recommended foe anything above I am considering three mowers.

I was wondering which mower you would recommend. These were the ones I was looking at, I liked the Husqvarna because it had anti rollback. But the Craftsman gets better reviews. All three of these tractor would have what someone told you is anti-rollback.. It cuts really well, and the Turn Tight steering makes it very easy to use.

You did not mention how big the yard is so here is an alternative. We live in Knox Pennsylvania. Have 4 acres to mow. Some rough areas. About two acres on a fairly steep slope. What kind of a riding mower do you recommend? Moved into a new home out in the country. Some hilly sections as well.

Should I have 2 separate mowers, one for the lawn and one for the junk? Might be worth doing that once or twice a year. I live in southern missouri and have 1 acre not very rough but with a 15 slope. The bottom of the hill is just an opposite slope to my road so not too crazy of a hazard.

Please help my wife is getting angry with my indecision and the yard is getting pretty tall. The tractor is more stable on slopes. The tractor has plenty of power. The tractor mows really well — as well as any other mower on the market. The tractor can pull stuff and is easy to install a bagger. If your wife likes to work on the lawn she will really like how easy this one steers and who well it cuts.

We have a 6. What mower would you suggest? Hi, Just purchased a house in Kalamazoo, MI. Have 5 acres, will be mowing about 2. Yard is very rough, and I am trying to reclaim some of it from brambles, brush, and dense woods. Have some slope walk out , lots of trees, and sandy soil. I am looking for something that can haul a yard cart, roller, etc- and not be overly rattled by the lumps, bumps, and tiny stumps that litter this lawn.

Any suggestions? It features a fabricated deck and locking differential. The fabricated deck will take more abuse for your rough lawn and the locking differential will help for traction for the slope and pulling heavier attachments. John, Thanks for taking the questions. I am purchasing a place with approximately an acre of grass with slopes up to 15 degrees. What are your thoughts? There are sections of slope even steeper, there I intend to put in terraces. Also, much off this country Washington state west of the mountains stays soggy.

Any additional ideas as to which type mower sounds best? Thanks, Brad Green. Hi Brad, The is a series tractor with some added features to make it look a little better sitting in your garage. Consumer Reports gave it the same rating as the D and the X I have 5 acres. About 1. The only problem areas are the ditches next to the road. They butt up to horse pasture so the only way to mow really is parallel to the slope and they are at least 30 degrees in places.

About once a month I will also mow the horse pasture which is much rougher than the lawn. When it gets warm it will not go up 10 degree slope. Would this be a good mower for what I am doing or should I look for something different. Thank you. They will not last more than a few years. The Husqvarna Z and others in that price range are not heavy enough to stay on slopes.

Finally the transmissions are not heavy enough to last on slopes. They are flat-landers only. Slopes suggest the types of sharply rising hills near a highway, while an incline is more like a low sloping bank of a ditch. Either mow up and down on a diagonal to reduce the possibility of slipping and rolling, or mow only uphill behind a walk-behind mower, then turn it off, walk down, and mow up again.

Additionally, it helps to know how to mow grass on a slope with a riding mower. If you happen to have a slope that dips down to a point and rises up, start at the point of the dipped area. Mow along the top-most edge with the riding mower where the slope peaks because this is where it will be more level and easier to control the mower.

Raise the deck of the mower to its highest point. Then mow upward vertically. Never try to turn the mower to mow downward as the bulk of the weight of these mowers is under and behind you and it could cause the mower to flip on top of you going down. Instead, back the mower down the slope, and then mow the next patch upward. The best lawn mower to mow on incline has certain characteristics.

If you can find one with all of those characteristics and it is also very easy to use, that is the mower you want for your slope and incline mowing jobs.

I am actually pleased to read this web site posts which includes plenty of valuable data, thanks for providing these data. My web-site :: TetraMale Reviews. The problem is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this in my search for something concerning this. This design is incredible! You certainly know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog well, almost…HaHa!

Fantastic job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool! Wow, fantastic weblog format! How long have you been running a blog for?

The full look of your site is great, let alone the content material! After I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment is added I get four emails with the exact same comment.

Perhaps there is a means you can remove me from that service? An intriguing discussion is worth comment. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone! Thanks for every other fantastic post. The best kinds of walk-behind mowers for steep banks have traction tires and even weight distribution.

They should also have hydrostatic transmissions in order to generate smoother acceleration and stopping. Finally, be sure the mower has a lot of power to get the job done correctly. Bob Vila advises consumers to consider the yard size and terrain type and points out that gas-powered lawn mowers are stronger than electric ones.

Bob Vila also mentions the hover mower, which is designed to mow steep inclines and other hard-to-mow areas. These clever machines operate with impeller fans on the bottom that lift them up. At the same time, a rotating, motorized trimmer cuts the grass. Bob Vila suggests using it for specific parts of a lawn as an extra mower. AS Motor offers some helpful advice for mowing steeper parts of a lawn. This is particularly important if the grass is quite long.

Ensure these are visible before you start mowing. The manufacturer will know exactly what their product is capable of so read the manual and follow their recommendation before getting started. Many mowers are issued standard with a ROPS. If your mower has a ROPS that is fully up e. These type of ride on mowers are notoriously unstable on slopes for two reasons. They have a pivoting front axle, which on slope allows the machine to automatically tilt over a bit and then that in turn causes a loss of traction on one of the rear wheels.

Due to the fact that the engine weight is in front, when going down a slope the centre of gravity changes. You then lose the ability to brake and slow down because almost all tractor style ride on mowers have only rear brakes. Slope and brush mowers have a very low centre of gravity and are often four-wheel drive for added traction. Often called ride on brush cutters, their decks are designed to efficiently process long grass, high weeds and even small trees, with mulching or rear discharge output.

Their lug grip tyres may rip up the turf however, turf tyres are often available.
