Bob Gregorie began his career in yacht design. After the crash, Gregorie came to Michigan hoping to find work as an automotive designer. In Edsel Ford hired him and he became the chief of Ford Motor Company's new design department in Inspired by his trip to Europe, Edsel Ford and designer Bob Gregorie created a custom car with a sophisticated "continental" look. When Ford drove the car in Florida the following spring, friends were so enthusiastic that he put the design into production.
